Why I want to be a Concept Artist.

I’ll be sharing my story on why I decided to tackle on the journey of becoming a concept artist in the industry.

Hey guys!

So, I’m creating a blog! This will be a place where I just share everything that’s happened over every month or maybe a week, I don’t know really but the main points of this blog that I’ll be doing will just be about my career as an artist and my journey to working in the game industry as a Concept Artist!

So to start it off, Just to give some backstory on my reason on why I want to be a Concept Artist. I’ve been dealing with a Career Identity Crisis ever since 2021 and I was really lost and I didn’t know if art was even a tangible job to have since the skills I had wasn’t really inclined to be an artist in the industry, So I tried to find different careers that I may like and I dabbled into various careers such as being a Social Media Manager to being a Social Media Agency Owner. Trying these different careers wasn’t working out too much since I tried being a Social Media Agency Owner for two years since the main point of this career is you find business owners and help them gain more customers, gain more revenue through the use of Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Tiktok Ads. And, The main point to being a Social Media Agency Owner is you gotta have grit and I really had that at the start, I was really motivated. I knew how to market myself, I knew how to talk to people, But in the end, I decided this is not for me.

So I came back to art and didn’t really know what kind of tangible job can I get from this industry, I knew I could become a Background Artist since the main reason why I started painting was because of Makoto Shinkai.
But, I didn’t want to be just a Background Artist. I wanted more, So I found out about Environment Concept Artist. Tried to read articles, listen to podcasts, watch tons of videos explaining the roots of being a Concept Artist and my god. This job is no joke.

But, i wanted to push through and really understand the main core of being a Concept Artist and after watching an abundance of Feng Zhu’s Videos, Trent Kaniuga, Listening to the Art Department Podcast/Concept 101, Listening to Interviews from several concept artists in the industry. I’ve now gained an understanding on how a person can be a Concept Artist and it all comes to down to a person having the addictive ability of drawing visionary designs and creating dozens of it while keeping the quality in tact.

But, The main takeaway is you got to enjoy drawing that’s were it all comes down to, I’m gonna keep sharing my journey on this blog and hopefully once I’m out of college. I’ll be working in a game studio as a Junior Concept Artist!

Thank you guys for reading! :)
